False story is false.

I was thinking it's an unintended side effect that the update has on banned consoles. It probably wasn't their intent, if it's true at all.

Nah, it's just what happens with updates. Small number of consoles brick. Happens for both Sony and Microsoft.

Also, I like how the story's been updated 4 times basically saying, "Okay, so, we were pretty much wrong, and Microsoft is working with us to figure out what's going on, but yeah, they're still jerks."

Well, this should take a little attention away from Sony's misfortunes. This whole incident just leaves me dumbfounded, though. I mean, how did they manage that?

The E66 code refers to a drive error. Now whether or not this could also be attached to modded consoles I do not know, and if customer support had the wrong info I also don't know. But my understanding is that most of these failures are on old 360s with old DVD drives that cant read the new smaller DRM on the disks.

Also if they are getting this error MS are sending out new 360S 250gb systems to replace them. Either that or I am getting this whole article confused with something else entirely.

All right, but still the fact that this is supposedly a targeted update, which isn't hitting its targets is a bit messed up.
