Twas a while ago since I heard atrocious news about how much the UK sucks but here we go again The R4 is simply a device that allows people to use their legally owned hardware in whatever ways they want to. It should never be illegal to tamper with or modify hardware that you own.

There's also the fact that it lets you play Japan-only games, even those incredibly hard to find ones. NDawg used to pirate games all the time on his, then moralfagged(inb4bencorrectingmeastoavoidthetitlemoralfag) the fuck up and deleted them all except for the Ouendans and Jump Ultimate Stars.

But yeah sure, I have no issues with this. I don't own an R4, nor do I desire to. I'll continue to buy my games, while not caring about Japan-only titles.

I have a TTDS (Same thing really) but I buy my games now so this doesn't bother me at all.

That's like axing free speech because people are saying stuff you don't agree with. It doesn't matter what people use their R4s for, it's a matter of principle that you should be able to modify your own hardware any way you like, using software or add-on hardware or whatever. To me, that's a basic freedom.

Seth I agree with you in principle but as Ax says when more than 99% of mods are available purely to make piracy possible, something which greatly damages the industry, controls are necessary.

I'm with Sebbes on this one. And we don't agree on much.

A similar example would be speed throttling on your car. Imagine if your car had a built in gps that only allowed you to go as fast as the posted speed limit, but the only reason you bought the car was to race it at the track.

Buying a DS exclusively for homebrew seems silly.
A better example would be a man illegally selling cocaine, and legitimately selling delicious homemade brownies. You don't let the guy off for selling cocaine just cause he's also selling delicious brownies.

Anecdote: I saw an R4 in the wild a while back, I actually enquired about buying it, and asked the guy what it did. He straight out told me that I could download games to it, nothing else.

I know a few kids with them as well, not using them for legal purposes.

These things aren't being sold as 'MAKE YOUR OWN GAMES!' they're being sold as 'GET FREE GAMES.'
