Okay, I've got a number of games I'm looking forward to on the console, but I haven't played anything new on my DS recently (still haven't finished Phantom Hourglass, but I just haven't gotten around to figuring out how to beat the final boss yet; that's for another thread, though). What I'd like to know is if there are any good RPGs on the DS that I need to get my hands on this holiday season, or somewhere thereabouts. I've got Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, and I'd prefer games that are in that vein. I've also been considering getting Chrono Trigger, but I've been pretty much broke for a while now. Is that something I should get right away, or are there other games I should get first? I'll even accept GBA games as answers (though not Breath of Fire 1 & 2, the other Golden Sun games, or FF Tactics: Advance, 'cause I've beaten those a number of times, and I want a new experience before I go back for more of the same).

FF4DS will rape you to death. Jap difficulty. Not even Battletoads is this hard. But then again, FF4 is my personal favourite of all time ever, so grinding = imokaywiththis.png

Lost Magic was quite a good one til it got rock hard. Like an RPG and a RTS, and you cast spells by drawing the shape of the rune on the bottom screen. Good, but hard.

Mario and Luigi games. Partners in Time and Bowsers Inside Story are awesome. those games.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor and Strange Journey are both must haves.

I know you're a fan of Thor and hes in both games.

HERE BE SECRETSYou have to fight Baldur(named Beldr in this one) and like in the myth, his weakness is Devils Fuge yet theres only one left in the city and the MC uses it. If he dies, game over, dosen't matter how many revive spells you have or who kills him. Plus it can only be used through the MC's basic attack. Oh and every few turns he uses a attack called Vampires Mist that attacks everyone regardless of where they are on the battlefield and he gets healed after the attack is done. Plus, when he gets down to 25% of his health, he brings back every minion you've killed, which consists of Basilisks(who can inflict the stone status effect on you) and Cait Sith(who are very fast spellcasters that cast wind spells which insta-kill if you have the stone status). There's two good things about this fight: 1) He's as slow as a stoned turtle coated in molasses and 2) No boss (excluding the final boss) is a hard as him.

Might need to check out SMT. I've been intrigued by that series for a while, but I've never taken the leap. Also, I forgot that FF Tactics A-2 existed, so I really need to get that. Has anyone played that? I played Lost Magic once when my friend had it, but it was way too tough for me at the time, and I gave up pretty early on. As for FF4, I'm not sure I'm looking for a game that will rape me repeatedly and then beat the hell out of me, afterward.

I checked a thread on 1UP that was basically about this, and I've seen people recommend Etrian Odyssey, Disgaea, Black Sigil, Phantasy Star 0, and Shiren the Wanderer. Anyone ever play these?

The Etrian Odyssey games give me a boner so fucking huge.

Phantasy Star 0 is awesome (we can play online if you get it).

Knights in the Nightmare and the Super Robot Wars game is awesome too.

The Izuna games if you like roguelikes. That series gives me a danger-boner.

I've liked the Phantasy Star games I've played (not the originals, sadly, but definitely the PSO games as well as PSU), so PS0 is almost certainly gonna happen once I get some cash, and the same goes for FFTA-2. I think the other two that I get after those will be Etrian Odyssey and SMT, unless someone can convince that POKEMANZ should replace one of those.

You can always get Pokemon but etrian oddysey and SMT, those are gonna be harder to find down the road. Plus Strange Journey is like Pokemon except with pixies, Thor, angels and hilarious sexual puns with certain demons.
