Learning manual really isn't something you need to do unless it's the transmission of the vehicle you drive. 99% of street vehicles are automatic now, and manual is a secondary option for performance cars.

I believe that the UK limits your license if you take the test with an auto; you can only drive automatic transmission cars. People thus learn manual to get the "full liscense" or the ability to drive whatever.

I don't know why they drive more manuals though, but I approve of it. Manuals are a dying breed in North America
