I disagree on them being a competitor. I think they're gonna get some modest growth from steamboxes, but we're looking at primarily the same general group of people buying these as play games on Steam already.

Console hardware being outdated in 2 years means nothing. The tech is arguably outdated already. Cutting edge tech has never been the point of a console. The point is when you buy a console, you are getting a guaranteed equal experience on every machine for the duration of the time you own the console.

If people wanted an upgradeable PC-like console, they wouldn't want a console at all.

My favourite part of this thread is the bit where Joey adds petrol costs onto the costs of console games to justify the cost of building a PC.

It's genuinely one of the daftest things I've read in a long time.
