Pandemic 2 Review By Terradude

Welcome to part 5 of Weekend Wasters. This weekend, staying true to my promise, I will be reviewing an extremely popular game that everyone already knows about! I'll also be joined by my loyal steed MaxxMan, but that's less important that reminding you of what I said last week.

The game in question this week is Pandemic 2. Basically, the goal is the same as last week's game; to kill everyone for no reason at all. But instead of a top-down shooter, it's got an RTS layout, and instead of killing them with soap-based weaponry, you're doing it with a strand of a new disease that you're free to customize. Everything, from its immunities and resistances, to its symptoms, to where it thrives, to what scientists will call it, all are yours to change. I named mine, "WAR," because truly, there is no disease as tragic and deadly as war. ;;



Yes, the naming-your-disease-Kira-and-having-its-sole-symptom-be-heart-failure joke has been made.
Yes, it's still funny.


While the goal is to kill everyone, the point is to do it without being caught. Giving symptoms like sneezing and coughing to your disease obviously makes it spread much, much quicker, but also makes it much more noticeable than, say, sweating. If countries notice your strain of illness being spread through the world around them, they'll either close their borders, distribute gas-masks, hand out bottled water, burn their corpses, or any combination of the above. This makes it very difficult to actually infect their countries. And by, "very difficult," I mean, "impossible."



Get used to seeing this. A lot. A lot.


While Madagascar's sole port, coupled with its paranoia, makes it very difficult to seize, it IS possible, whether by luckily starting there, or by playing very well. There are many walkthroughs available on the internet to teach you how to do such a thing, but honestly, they sort of defeat the purpose, and I encourage you not to look them up until you're sure you're playing the game a final time, and want to send it off with a bang.

Honestly, maybe I just have a boner for RTSes, but I have been playing this game off-and-on for a couple of years, and I have yet to grow bored with it. The replay value is almost endless, though the gameplay is essentially non-existent, which I know doesn't float everyone's boat. I won't be deducting score just for the genre, however, so I'll end this review with a solid 9.5 out of 10.

Alright, so this is going to be a new thing this week. Along with your weekly dose of time wasting fun, you’ll be recommended some tunes to listen to while ya play! Well anyway, here we go.

So this week we’re gonna take a look at melodic hardcore/punk band Set Your Goals. Hailing from the sunny San Francisco Bay area, these dudes have been playing their music for the past six years. But, I’m gonna talk about their debut Studio album titled, Mutiny! Released in ’06 this album is packed to the brim with blaring drum beats, and catchy guitar riffs. Those elements combined with their unique dual-vocalist style make for some great music. Their sound, on this album, can be described as 90’s skate punk slammed together with the sound of melodic hardcore bands such as Lifetime, and New Found Glory. I adore this album.
