Post subject:  Player interview #11 - Raiku

Name:
Raiku

Age:
24

Location:
New Jersey

How old were you when you got into gaming, and which system did it?
I was 5 and it was the SNES.

If different from above, what was the first system you owned?

What systems do you currently own?
PS3, PS2, SNES, 360, Wii

What is your favorite system, be it current or retro?
SNES

A rough estimate of how many games you own?
About 200

What game are you currently playing?
Skyrim, Cave Story 3D

What is your favourite genre, and why?
It's a tie between Metroidvania and RPG. Metroidvania because of the exploration and RPG because of the story.

What is your favourite game series, and why?
Shin Megami Tensei. Some of the best stories and character development I've ever seen.

What is your all-time favorite game, and why?
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. It was one of my first games and I've memorized it yet still enjoy playing it.

Who is your favourite developer, and why?
Atlus, they're a Japanese company that has recently been trying to appeal more to Western gamers which I believe will help the games industry in the long run.

Give us your most under-rated/under-valued game.
9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors, most people know it as "That game no one played in 2010, yet was still nominated for best handheld game."

Any platform exclusive you'd like to see make the leap to multiplatform?
LittleBigPlanet, I think it'd work great on the Wii/WiiU

How about your favorite handheld game?
Jump Ultimate Stars

Any old series you'd like to see revived on current gen platforms?
I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of Adventure Island.

Tell us about your most memorable gaming moment, something you're going to tell your grandkids.
Playing Crackdown 2's multiplayer, someone else jumps into my city. I decide to have some fun with him and shoot some rockets. I kill him a few times, then I hear a screeching sound in my headset, its the player screaming for me to stop, this kids not a day past 10. I decide to have some more fun with him and I start hearing "STOP KILLING ME!!! LET ME KILL YOU!!! WHAT BUTTON DO I PRESS TO KICK YOU OUT?"

Deep thoughts now:
Given the many news reports of people committing horrific acts against other people and then blaming videogames, do you feel that videogames are - in any way, shape or form - responsible for these atrocities, or are there other issues at play?

No, people are just looking for the next big thing to blame when it comes to policing the youth, they've done it with rock music, metal, pants and, i kid you not, ice cream. It seems that the supreme Court case has calmed it down though.

Have you ever found yourself looking at life or the world around you in a different light after playing
a videogame, or has a videogame had any influence on how you live your life?

Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzonoha vs King Abaddon. Major spoilers for those who have never played the game.

HERE BE SECRETSAbout 2/3rds into the game, the man named Dahn that you have been ordered to chase down summons a bunch of Apollyon(giant metal locusts) into our world from the Infinite Abyss (also known as Abaddon) to take down the Tento Clan(bug people who require a woman every few years to reproduce, their latest choice was Dahns sister who is your client) and become King Abaddon. The Apollyon start killing people in Tokyo. You are then asked by a mysterious man if the Apollyon are a punishment from God for swaying away from Him or a reminder that He exists. I actually took about 20 minutes to answer this question I sat there thinking if they're here to punish us or to remind us that He still exists. I believe I chose reminder I cannot remember at this time.

And finally, tell us a strange but true fact about yourself.
I cried at the begining of Mother 3

I like this premise that Atlus is too underground for us to know who it is.

Also, you lucky bastard, I want Skyrim so hard.
