Post subject:  Owen from Kotaku has lost his mind (more Paul Christoforo)

If you've been living under a rock for the last week or so, then chances are you'll be asking "Who the hell is Paul Christoforo?". Well, lever up that large boulder, go to the nearest internet cafe, and hit this link. Hell, why not just Google his name and have yourself a blast. Or, just read on...

Raiku originally linked to this kicking off over at Penny Arcade - and although I would have caught on eventually as an avid PA reader, it was nice to get into this well before it got rolling like it did.

In short, he was hired to do all the promo work for the Avenger Controller, which is designed primarily for faster response times, but also helps disabled gamers work around any problems they had with PS3/360 pads. Bear in mind, he wasn't actually involved with the design, making, or manufacture of the Avenger - he was just hired to do all the promo work, so don't go boycotting it just because of this dick. The PS3 version of the Avenger was a little off being finished, leaving many customers to email them and ask what was up.

One customer, "Dave", sent an email, got a shitty answer, sent an understandably unhappy response back, and was then bombarded by this here Paul fella with a whole load of abuse, threats, and other such unnecessary garbage, pulling big-name companies and sites into the deal to support him. In a last-gasp attempt to stop Paul from being such a prick, Dave CC'd in several gaming sites - Kotaku, IGN, Penny Arcade - to show others just what kind of a dick this guy was and, hopefully, to get this incident some coverage that might prevent others being treat the same.

In a returned email, Paul mentioned having a booth at PAX East and PAX West. Mike at Penny Arcade saw what had preceeded it and, because Penny Arcade actually run the PAX conventions, replied to both Paul and Dave saying "Dave, if Mike is at PAX, we'll cancel his spot", obviously sickened at what Paul had been doing.

Paul then sealed his fate by ripping into Mike in a gratuitous fashion, which soon turned to ass-kissing and dick-sucking once he realised that Mike was indeed Mike...

Now, Owen at Kotaku - one of the main reporting sites of this whole fiasco - has come out and effectively said that Mike - not Paul - was the bully in this whole saga, although he does state that Paul was unprofessional in what he did.

What? Mike threw the first digital punches here?!? WHAT THE FUCK, OWEN?!?

Are you completely fucking insane?

Owen at Kotaku wrote:
Penny Arcade is not my business and I've never attended PAX. But the fact remains this incident never would have become the Internet scandal it is if Krahulik didn't decide it involved him and it involved Penny Arcade.

Hang on a minute, Owen. Did you miss the part where:

A) Paul was a prick from the start
2) Paul mentioned he was going to be at PAX before Mike got involved
D) Maybe Mike took offence that someone with such a poor attitude towards customers was going to be at HIS event

...or are you just fucking stupid?

If Dave did anything first, it was to garner some support from sites who frequently report such things, and maybe to stop this kind of shit happening to other folk. Mike did nothing until this arrogant fucknugget mentioned he'd be at PAX and, rightly protecting one of his assets, stepped in to ensure that none of his customers would have to face this idiot.

Essentially, Paul was the big playground bully, threatening a smaller kid with his karate skills, and Mike was the kid who actually KNEW karate, and who stepped in to ensure the innocent kid wouldn't get punished. When the bully called his bluff, the karate kid unleashed hell.

For Owen to even try to defend Paul leads me to wonder how skewed his past thoughts on other such figures have been. Obviously, one fat, hairy Yorkshireman won't be much of a loss for such a big-name site. But judging by the comments generated on his article, I'm not the only one crying "bullshit!" at him.

This most likely isn't going to damage Kotaku in any way. Its possibly the biggest gaming site outside of IGN, and often the first ones to report most breaking stories. But its certainly going to put a scratch, or a tiny dent, in his reputation, and I'm pretty certain that any future stories on Paul and the Avenger will be handled by someone else there...

Paul, however, is a different story. The makers of the Avenger were sickened by his actions, and sacked him immediately, although this hasn't stopped Paul from holding the account details for the website and promo works rather than giving them to the Avenger folks. He's also the biggest name on the meme circuit at the moment, and a simple google search of his name brings up nothing but stories of his douchbaggery. Paul is ruined. His company is no more. Its incredibly unlikely he'll ever work in this area ever again.

And its all his own fault.

Great read Blokeh. I really don't read Kotaku especially after their story on how Famitsu should never be trusted, no matter what they do. This guy though sounds like he bans people who disagree with him.

Kotaku is amazing at one thing and one thing only. Generating hits.

This will do that.

I firmly believe no one there speaks from their heart but are all incredibly adept at garnering attention. A talent, but not one I admire.

Someone should let Kotaku know that Jim Sterling is pirating their shit and trying to masquerade as a legitimate journalist in the process. 'Cause that's some fucking Sterling-levels of bullshit right there.
