Bands have incited riots that ended violently, people have killed over music, you get the picture.

Wrong. 'Tis the love of money that is the root of all evil.

That's in the Old Testament, and it wasn't inbreeding. How the hell were they going to be fruitful and multiply if brothers and sisters didn't do the dirty? This is besides the point, though.

What I meant was that loyalty to one parent has led children to kill those that abused said parent, even the other parent. Do we get rid of families because of this possibility and leave small children to fend for themselves as best they can?

That doesn't answer my question in the least.

What is "the real way"? Who are you to definitively say that there is no God or afterlife? Who are you to blithely take a giant brush stroke and paint every religion as "worthless"? As many atrocities as there have been committed in God's name, how many more good works have been done in the name of God? Mother Theresa was just some crazy bat, not a figurative angel of mercy? Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. was just a maniac that liked to walk a lot, not the leader of the foremost civil rights movement of the '60s? Franklin Graham just has a shoe fetish, he didn't create one of the biggest Christmas charity events there's ever been?

If religion isn't your cup of tea, I have no complaint, you're welcome to your opinion. Just don't say that in the guise of an indiscriminate ass.

Religion makes people happy with what they have and think they know.
If there is anything we are unsure about then it's because a particular god made it unknowable. So don't go about trying to make things better or understand how the world about you, the people in it and the universe as a whole works. God did it.
Not everyone listens to this, which is why people can and do fly all over the world or even into space, why we are having this conversation when many of the parcipitants are on different continents and why we aren't toiling in the field now so that there will be enough food for the winter.

Oh, right, I forgot that every religious person in the world was extremely against science, technology, and had the brain of your average orangutan.

It's amazing what peer pressure can do to rational people. But there's no denying that there are maaaany dumb people living among us. There's also a correlation between atheism and higher education. The more you think independently, the more likely you are to be atheist.

I don't see much of a correlation between religion and education/intelligence, normally. I see it most as an age thing. The younger you are, with the youngest starting around 12-13, the more likely you are to be atheist. It's the teenagers going, "oh im athiest because science says so DARWIN FTW" that I see most often.

As you age, you learn more about the science behind everything(starting around 30), and tend to turn towards religion.

I have my doubting moments myself, wondering if there REALLY is a God, and, if so, why everything is the way it is. But then I really think about it, look around, and realize that there's absolutely no way that all of this happened on an accident. Something created everything, and the only two options are God and alien overlords. I think God makes more sense.

There's really no resemblance between an "accident" and systematic testing (through random iterations, yes) throughout millions of years.

Who are you to say there is an afterlife and a god? who are you to say all religions are right? Who are you to call me an ass?
Who?

1) I did not say that there was an afterlife or a god, just that, since these cannot be proven, you cannot definitively say there is no afterlife or god, unless you're privy to information that the rest of us do not have.
2) I did not say that all religions are right, nothing remotely like that. I do believe that most religions have at least some truth to them, and several have a lot of truth, but I don't believe that all religions are "right".
3) I did not call you an ass, I said you were behaving like an ass. There is indeed a difference.

Also, I do not believe that there is a correlation between intelligence and atheism. Do more intelligent people doubt more often? Probably, since they know what questions to ask. Does that mean that the smarter they are, the more likely they are to turn to atheism? No, not really.

Interesting stuff, but hardly conclusive. It's pretty limited in scope, so it doesn't really prove all that much.
