You did say it first appeared in gay men, when that quite clearly isn't the case. It might have started being more prominent in gay men, but didn't start there.

Right, I did say that, and I then admitted that I misspoke. Here in the US, the first documented cases were among gay men.

Also, you can't really blame gay men for its spread either, or should I say, hold them totally responsible. Many gay men kept their sexuality a secret for fear of the stigma it brought. So they kept hush, lest the general populace shunned them, and that resulted in many cases going undiagnosed until it was far too late.

No, I do not hold gay men totally responsible for the spread of AIDS. However, they are to be held partially responsible. That stigma didn't stop boatloads of gay men from running through sexual partners like Gabriel Iglesias goes through tacos. Take Freddie Mercury, for example. He had, what, over 3000 sexual partners before he died? It's not like he kept this a secret, and neither did a lot of other gay men. In fact, in that link I posted, there's a specific reference of a well-known gay man hopping from partner to partner. He knew he had AIDS, but he didn't tell his partners. People like him bear the most responsibility for the spread of AIDS, and other STDs as well (and I'm including straight guys and women on that one).

But people have all manner of diseases and don't tell partners about them. But whereas most other diseases are noticeable right away, people with AIDS don't know until symptoms start showing, which can be years and years. Back at the start, people won't have known, and it would have been years before symptoms showed, and even longer before it was properly classified and information released.

Doesn't mean that God exists though. :D

You also assume that he didn't use a condom.
Not 100% safe but they definitely help stop STDs spreading.

YES IT DOES, YOU HUSH NOW.

;)

@Joe: I honestly do not know how widespread condom use is among gay men, but if they use them about as much as straight men, then I think it's pretty safe to say that that guy might have used a condom twice.

I'd imagine if he knew he had AIDs, he would have used a condom.

Do all straight men who have STDs and know it use a condom? Fuck no. It's absurd to think that gay men are any better about that, ESPECIALLY back in the '70s, when casual sex was the new big thing (no pun intended).
