Clearly, the way to determine whether or not my statement in YRYR that 'Tarnation' doesn't make a hillbilly is to determine which character people would first think of in terms of the use of "TARNATION!" There should also be a debate as to whether or not the exclamation is more associated with hillbillies or prospectors/old western folk. Frankly, it doesn't matter in the end, because fuck Smokey. |

Just like the term "redneck" applies to people outside of the deep South, so does the term "hillbilly" apply to people out West, too, like the aforementioned Stumpy. Was everyone out west a hillbilly? Nope. Did Sam have an incredibly rustic accent and shoot his guns in the air every five seconds? Yep. What does that remind you of? Hillbillies. Yeehaw, y'all. |

Smokey's ignorance is not correct. It's like this, see? Okay, so over in east Asia, you've got the Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, Taiwanese, etc., right? They're all different but they can be classified under the label of 'Asian', but it would be incorrect and potentially offensive to refer to a Chinese person as Japanese, yeah? So, here we've got Hillbillies, Cowboys, White Trash, Hicks, Old-Timey Prospectin' Folk, etc., right? They're all different but they can be classified under the label of 'Redneck', but it would incorrect and potentially offensive to refer to a Cowboy as a Hillbilly. Checkfuckingmate. |

You're telling me that in a country as large as America that the different regions Appalachia/Ozarks, 'Old West', plains farmland, etc. that there isn't differences in cultures, values, and basically everything else? What America are you living in? It certainly isn't one based in reality... Come out west and tell somebody that being a cowboy or a prospector (i hear there's still a few out there...) isn't a lifestyle and that they're hillbillies and see how quickly you get punched in the face.
