Okay, so last night I discovered that Ax was auto-crafting. To the layman, this means nothing. To the serious Eorzea crafter, this makes your blood boil and your teeth gnash.

So, in order to turn your 20exp auto-craft into a 1300exp macro-craft, here's a guide.

When crafting, the experience you get for each item made increases with the quality of the item made.

Get quality high enough, and you make a HQ version, getting triple experience.

This is how crafting works.

STATS
Craftmanship - the higher this stat, the more completion points per "synthesis"
Control - the higher this stat, the more quality points per "touch"

It always helps to have the best quality gear you can find that maximises your Craftmanship and Control. Jewellery will give you CP (shut up, Joey), or Crafting Points, which you use to add quality or use other crafting skills.

ACTIONS USED
Synthesis - Does not use CP, makes the items, but reduces the items durability by 10 points a turn. 90% success rate.
Touch -Uses CP, increases quality, reduces Durability by 10 points. 70% success rate.

IMPORTANT SKILLS
Steady Hands - Uses CP, adds 20% success rate to the next five actions.
Master's Mend - Uses CP, restores 30 durability.

You will see that during crafting, your item changes colour.

Black/pink - poor condition - 50% quality added this touch
White - normal condition - 100% quality added this touch
Red - good condition - 150% quality added this touch
Various colours - excellent condition - 400% quality added

This is random, so do not even try to work with it. Just enjoy the benefits as and when you get them.

So the skill in crafting comes from being able to add as much quality as possible before making the item. A simply way to do this is to add quality until you only have 10 Durability left, use Master's Mend to restore Durability, then actually making the item.

This simple macro will do this for you.

For items with 40 Durability
Requires: 168 CP minimum

Code:
/ac “Steady Hands” <me>
/wait 3
/ac “Basic Touch” <me>
/wait 3
/ac “Basic Touch” <me>
/wait 3
/ac “Basic Touch” <me>
/wait 3
/ac “Master’s Mend” <me>
/wait 3
/ac “Basic Synthesis” <me>
/wait 3
/ac “Basic Synthesis” <me>
/wait 3
/ac “Basic Synthesis” <me>

Steady Hands - 22 CP
Basic Touch - 18 CP
Master's Mend - 92 CP

The above macro is a perfect starting platform. If you are creating an item that you know can be created in one single Synthesis, then remove one and replace with a Touch to add more quality, provided you have enough CP.

Also, during crafting you'll see the screen where it shows you the ingredients required to make it. Here you can add HQ ingredients to get a massive boost of quality before you've even started. Click me and look at the blue box to see where you do this.

There are some leves that ask you to obtain certain items in return for experience and gil. Hand in a HQ version of that item and get 3x the rewards. I was doing some Goldsmith leves that required a Brass Ring Of Crafting. 1 ring netted me 6000 exp. 1 HQ ring netted me 18000 exp. Using normal items I was getting HQ rings 75% of the time, but using HQ ingredients I was making HQ rings 100% of the time, and in the space of 10 minutes I went up 9 levels.

Not even shitting.

As you increase in levels, you will change that macro slightly to include more Touches, or even stronger Touches (Standard Touch gets you more quality and with higher success, but at more CP cost).

Do it right, and you will maximise the shit out of crafting, and then make a fortune turning in leves.

Questions?
