So I bought a new shield (Darksteel Scutum), fucking bargain at 80k, so I HAD to jump on that.

But now I only have 6.5k left. I'm basically fucked aren't I? Considering how ass-backwards the crafting is in this game (selling items for a couple of hundred gil aint good, especially if you absolutely break your back trying to get materials), so how in the world of fuck do I level my crafting, and not go completely broke at the same time?

Any decent guides out there? If there are, they are pretty well hidden. Most are just "Leves leves leves HQ ITEMS leves leves..." which is NOT helpful as I can't guarantee HQ items at all. I know that shit already.

I keep going on about rewarding experience, and barriers between me and that reward, but I am being deadly serious here. How do I even get started when there's always barriers in my way? For instance, only being able to sell 40 items at a time on the market? That's fucking retarded when you're trying to make a living in this game.

INB4 CRAFTING REQUESTS THREAD...

Don't want it (no offense), and I shouldn't need it. After all, isnt the point that you ought to be able to become self sufficient? I'm a proud man, shouldnt have to rely on charity. All I want is a decent guide showing approximately what I need to gather to level with, and I'll go and get it. That information must be out there by now.

Sorry if I sound condescending, but here goes...

If you want to level your crafting, then you will need to put as much quality into the items you're crafting as you possibly can. This will increase EXP yield. Crafting relies on two stats - Craftmanship (for synthesising) and Control (for adding quality).

Tradecraft Leves are an absolutely amazing way of levelling up, even more so when you can make HQ items every time.

HERE is a guide that explains how the leves work, and how to manipulate them into boosting your experience AND your rewards.

HERE is the same guy talking about how v2.1 differs from 2.0, complete with a link to all the repeatable leves for every single kind of craft.

So let me see... you're better off with BLACKSMITH for the time being, so use the Blacksmithing Leves Guide and do a whole bunch of the "Constancy" type leves, as the quest giver and the customer are always in the same place. Choose the highest rewarding leve and then just create as many of that item as you can. Then rinse and repeat the shit out of the leve.

Eventually, using the right combination of Touches and Synthesizing, you'll be able to craft HQ stuff every single time without fail. My personal favourite macro for ensuring a HQ finish every time is:

Code:
/ac "Steady Hand" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "Basic Touch" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "Basic Touch" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "Basic Touch" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "Master's Mend <me>
/wait 3
/ac "Basic Touch" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "Basic Synthesis" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "Basic Synthesis" <me>

Providing you have enough CP, you will apply the most amount of quality you can, and then begin synthesizing. I think around the 230 CP mark will pretty much guarantee you can pull this off.

Use this same macro for everything you want to create a HQ version of, and you'll likely start putting out HQ 100% of the time.

However, the only time you should ever use Auto-synthesize is when you want 100 ingots or similar in a very short space of time, for selling or whatever. If you're refining shit to turn into materials, then always use manual mode.

You earn money from every turn-in as well as shards and materials as rewards, and not to mention that some of the things you make for leves also sell well on the markets because some people prefer to buy a load of HQ items and use them in leves to level up without actually doing anything. Always keep an eye out for those things.

If you like, I'll be more than happy to craft a whole bunch of HQ shit for leves for you, to give you a head start and get you some motherfucking rewards. Tomorrow night, get online, go through those guides and find some suitable leves, and I'll help you out. Should be able to not only get a whole bunch of shards and materials, but money too. I make 'em, you take 'em. Sound rike a pran? If it makes you feel better, I'll charge you for the fuckers.

Eventually, the whole crafting thing will "click" and you'll just start firing off HQ shit all over the place, and you'll be all rollin' in gil, bein' baller as fuck, yo.

Just saw you came online as I edited the above - note I said I'd charge for the shit. :D

Also, leves reward you with materials, most of which you use in making said items, so you usually make back what you've used, plus more besides, helping you craft more shit.

This shit I already know...

BUT, when it's costing me say, 50 gil from the vendors/market to even make a single item, then should it be logical that the item SHOULD sell on the marketplace for at least the cost of manufacture? When assclowns are selling those items on the market for 3 gil ( the exact same price they could sell them to a vendor), then It's basically forcing me to take a massive loss on every single thing I make.

Seriously, I havent got time for this bullshit

Okay, here's a suggestion, feel free to shoot it down or choose not to follow it.

1. Find a leve that requires a simple item
2. Go gather a few of the materials needed
3. Make the items
4. Turn them in
5. Experience, gil, and materials get
6. Repeat steps 1-5
7. If you manage to make a HQ item, get double experience and double gil

Initial outlay: nothing
Returns: lots of experience, lots of gil, lots of materials

You increase the chance of making a HQ item if your level is at least 5-10 higher than the level of the item you're making. So if you're level 10 Blacksmith, your chances of making HQ items at level 1-5 are very good indeed.

But whatevs. Your call. I took two crafts from 0-31 in the space of a single day, spent around 10k on materials and shards, and made more than that on leves and the market (once I identified which items sold the best).

All you have to ask yourself is: do you want to put the time in?

Are you even taking on board what I am saying?

I'm taking a loss on everything I am crafting because the market is fucked. There's people on there who have no place posting items, because they are too stupid to realise that they could get the same return they are asking for, by simply just selling to the vendor. Whereas me, who actually wants a return for my effort, can't get that because of those fucking minnie-moo-foo-foos.

So for my 6000gil left this evening, I'm down to 1500.

It aint the time needed to level I am worried about, and I keep saying this time after time, but no-one is bloody listening. All I want, nay, all I NEED, is to see some kind of return for my efforts. At the moment I am seeing nothing, and I am starting to wonder if there is a point carrying on with this shit.

Am I missing something here?

Why are you buying things to craft? Do you not have any gathering abilities?

This. Just... this.

There is no single material in the game that cannot be gathered in the field FOR FREE, and there is no single piece of gear that will need repairing before you gather enough shit that you could sell even for 1gil and not afford the costs, and there is no starter gear that you have to buy (shit, the crafting missions GIVE you gear as well as materials)...

The game GIVES you the tools to be completely self sufficient without ever touching a marketboard, and it GIVES you the leves to repeat over and over to get gil AND materials...

If your only source of materials is the marketboard, then yes, you are set to fail.

But try grabbing a pickaxe or an axe and just getting your own materials... from the land... for free... so you can craft... for free... and then use your freely crafted free item and convert it into a few thousand EXP and a few hundred gil...

So I guess I've spent all day gatherin for nothing, huh?

Simple fact is, there are items that neither a miner, nor a botanist can gather. Like leather, for example.

So I spend two hours or so killing beasts, but the drop rate is so retarded, that I have barely enough to make it worthwhile. Where else, realistically am I going to get them? I cant very well just conjure them out of thin air.

I appreciate that you've fabricated some kind of stereotype of me, as being someone who does not want to put in the effort. Well that is plain false. The last two days has been nothing but effort on my part, and it's getting me no-where. So before you guys post back with "hurr durr, doing it wrong, do this instead" , please consider that I HAVE been doing that, and I have NOT seen any kind of progress.

So without the criticism, just advise. I dont want or need charity, I just want tangible advice that someone who is flat broke can follow.

I went to Quarrymill (I think?) with a lvl50 WHM and spent half an hour farming lvl25 antelopes for horns. Got about 27.

Went to Aleport, headed east, farmed dodos for animal hides, got about 75 in half hour.

Made a few things for leves, handed them in, made around 10k by repeating them, and then I had enough to throw away buying stacks of leather instead of farming.

Simple.
