Is Tatsunoko vs. Capcom coming to the West?

Scans from the latest issue of Nintendo Power (via NeoGAF) seems to suggests that the previously Japan only Tatsunoko vs. Capcom could make its way to North America. Though Capcom have been stating for some time that their aim was to take the game outside its home territory troubles acquiring all the Tatsunoko licences (which are owned by a number of different companies in America) was always anticipated to be a road block. If the scan is to be believed however this suggest Capcom have managed to acquire all of the related licences.

If this turns out to be true and all the licences are now secured then this may signal that that the game could also make it to Europe.

Why is this good news? Simply it is an amazing 2D fighter, the Japanese version of which I enjoyed playing greatly (until the 4.0 Wii update patched out Freeloader compatibility). A simplified Capcom vs. game takes the familiar Capcom characters and pitches them against the Japanese anime characters of Tatsunoko a la Marvel vs. Capcom. While most of these characters are unfamiliar to a Western audience, a few will be known (Battle of the Planets anyone?) and even the unknown characters prove entertaining in a Japanese chic way.

If it does make it out hopefully it will be well received by the notoriously hard to predict Wii audience. Added online play and a rebalanced final boss wouldn’t hurt in this regard but is there room for a 2D fighter on the system without a cast made up of Nintendo characters.

UPDATE - Release is confirmed for N.America and Europe.
