The hype for Kojima’s next project began last week in Famitsu magazine with a two page teaser advert. All the two page spread showed was a field of long grass and trees against a brooding sky with a date and a web site URL. The date was the 18th of May, the site – www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/next/ For those paying attention that date was yesterday so I eagerly logged on to find… The same field and brooding sky with a count down and (occasionally) a flashing number 5 (or S the font is indistinct).

Usually at this point I would throw in some speculation as to what’s going on. After all the last Metal Gear Solid was the fourth in the series… But this is Kojima, prince of misdirection and king of the practical joke. So this could be MGS 5, or just as easily Zone of Enders ‘S’.

What I do know is that as I type the storm continues in my browser and the counter stands at 62 hours, 15 minutes and 10 seconds, and that is 10am (in Japan) on 22nd of May (about 2am GMT). Expect an update very soon after (and then maybe another after my girlfriend gets home to translate anything I don’t understand).
