Ghostbusters will be able to cross over to the Otherside.

Due to hit stores on June 16th the North American release of the 360 Ghostbusters game will not be region locked. Atari confirmed to Destructoid yesterday that the release would be playable in all regions.

The European release the Ghostbusters game has been involved in some rather bizarre legal tussles. Atari picked up the rights to publish the Terminal Reality title when it was let go by Activision Blizzard. In recent months however Sony stepped in waving their distribution rights to the game in based on their ownership of the movies. In the end Sony’s rights only secured them timed PS3 and PSP exclusivity on the title in EU territories. Atari retained full rights in all other regions and to distribute the title in Europe on all none Sony platforms later this year.

The move to not impose any region locks on the game means that impatient 360 owners in Europe will be able to import the game without fear of compatibility issues. While this decision could be viewed direct response by Atari to Sony’s somewhat ungentlemanly conduct it is relatively common for 360 games to have no region coding and its inclusion is left totally up to the developers/publishers discretion.
